Italians love families and kids love pizza #winwin

It’s not always easy choosing the perfect place to dine when you’re in a large family group. One person might want this, another person can’t have that and child-friendly restaurants can sometimes be a little gimmicky and low quality.

European restaurants tend to do family dining really well overall – especially the Italians. They’re often inclusive and happy to cater for family groups, but also high in quality without being too formal. Good family dining in the UK does exist, especially at restaurants like Gusto, which has 19 branches across the country and several in the North West including Alderley Edge, Cheadle Hulme, Manchester City Centre, Knutsford and Didsbury.

Gusto’s menu is heavily influenced by Italy and with that comes a love for the bambinos. All their classic pasta and risotto dishes are available in smaller child size portions or, if they like to be more hands on, all Gusto restaurants offer keen junior cooks the opportunity to create their very own pizza – with a special Gusto chef’s hat – because it’s important to look the part.

A tomato sauce covered base is brought over to the table and children can top them with their choice of three toppings from cheese, ham, sweetcorn, mushrooms, spicy pepperoni or tuna. Once they’ve arranged their toppings to their own exacting standards, they’re taken to the wood fired oven to be cooked to perfection.

Make your own pizza is available every day until 6pm for £6.95, including the chef’s hat and a dessert. Kids can choose an ice lolly or a scoop of ice cream; from chocolate, vanilla, Eton mess, or pistachio flavours.

While all this is going on, grown-ups are left relatively free to relax with a glass of wine from the extensive list, and enjoy their own meal. Obviously adult-size pizzas are bigger than the kid’s versions, but both are all freshly prepared in house using Gusto’s homemade dough.

If you prefer pasta dishes, choose from classics such as carbonara or bolognaise or something a little different like spaghetti with white crab, chilli, fresh lemon and garlic, or tagliatelle tossed with smoked salmon, cream, peas and spinach.

Gusto also offer a range of delicious and substantial main courses such as slow cooked pork belly, pan roast duck breast, 28 day aged premium steaks or the popular Gusto burger with melted mozzarella.

Family dining has just got less complicated and more fun. It’s not easy to please everyone, but you’ll get pretty near to it at Gusto.
